Tennessee Tennis Hall Of Fame Dinner Is Tonight

Alice Tym, Ned Caswell To Be Inducted

Chattanooga area tennis legends Alice Tym and Ned Caswell will be inducted into the Tennessee Tennis Hall of Fame tonight at a dinner tonight at the Chattanooga Golf and Country Club.

Tym was the leading force in starting the women's tennis program at the Univ. of Florida as a freshman in the early1960s, once held a top 20 world ranking and also coached the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's program to AIAW national championships in 1977-78.

Caswell is the director of tennis at Baylor School and Manker Patten, has won three world titles and 16 national championships in various age divisions.

He coached Anderson (S.C.) Junior College to a national title in 1962 and the Baylor girls tennis team have won the last three TSSAA D-II AA championships.

He was Southern Conference champion, SoCon most valuable player and All-American at Furman in the mid-1980s.

A reception is at 6 p.m. and the hall of fame dinner is at 7.

Cliftina Jones Charged In Death Of Orange Grove Center Client, Whose Body Was Found In Van

A Chattanooga woman has been charged in the death of an Orange Grove Center client whose body was found April 18 at an Orange Grove residence. Cliftina K. Jones, 60, was indicted by a Hamilton County Grand Jury on a charge of criminally negligent homicide. Police said at the time there was no sign of trauma on the body of 60-year-old Carrie Lee Parkey. After police on Wednesday released clear photos of a man who tried to tried to rape a woman in the MLK Neighborhood, multiple callers said it was "Tom" who works at Amazon.
