Lee University School of Music will present its Program of Sacred Songs on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Lee Chapel.
From the studio of Professor Tony Deaton a total of 13 students of various voice types will present 23 songs and arias from the standard sacred vocal literature with accompaniment provided by Mary Beth Wickes and Rachel Appleton.
Some of the pieces selected for the evening are “O Rest in the Lord,” “The Call,” “O Divine Redeemer,” “His Eye is on the Sparrow,” and “Shall We Gather at the River?”
Other selections include “I Know My Redeemer Liveth,” “Ho! Every One that Thirsts,” “Wayfaring Stranger,” and “Sometimes I Feel like a Motherless Child.”
Performing on the concert will be Nicholas Branson, Carmen Fowlkes, Kelsey Frost, Kaylee Gallagher, James Hoskins, Tiffany Howard, Sara Kennedy, Aaron Murphy, Michael Payne, Tyler Plemons, Nicholas Rodriguez, Naomi Shady and Vera Voznyuk.
Many of Mr. Deaton's students have placed first in state and regional vocal competitions including National Association of Teachers of Singing, Tennessee Music Teacher’s Association and the prestigious Metropolitan Opera Auditions. Mr. Deaton also conducts master-classes, serves as a voice adjudicator, and continues an active performance schedule.
The concert is open to the public and is a free, non-ticked event.
