Chattanooga Loses, Wisconsin Gains

Friday, October 4, 2013

Next week a small town in southern Wisconsin will gain a new police officer, a loving husband and the proud daddy of two little girls. Only a few citizens know this, which is why I write to publicly thank Officer Hartwig for his years of service to the citizens of Chattanooga.

I first came to know Officer Nathan Hartwig after I completed the citizen's police academy. He was the officer who would arrange my ride-alongs with officers throughout the city. It was not until later I discovered he and his family lived in the East Brainerd area and therefore would become one of my constituents.

Officer Hartwig is returning home and will be continuing his career in law enforcement. Wisconsin gains a fine family and a dedicated officer. His departure leaves a hole in Chattanooga's thin blue line which will be difficult to fill. However, I am heartened to know there are men and women who make the decision to fill those holes; and, I thank God for their willingness to serve.

Lookout Valley Falls Just Short Of State Tournament

Season endings are always painful, but much like a burn injury, there are degrees of pain. The Lookout Valley Jackets saw a monster season come to a close Saturday one step shy of a Class A state tournament berth, falling 7-4 to a good University High School out of Johnson City in a Class A Sectional battle.   The immediate aftermath cut deep into ...
