A city police sergeant is back on duty after serving a three-day suspension for working an extra job where alcohol was served.
An internal affairs investigation found that Sgt. Daniel Welles was working an event at The Church on Main involving a UTC sorority party.
Sgt. Welles said he never went inside the venue that is on Rossville Avenue off Main Street and did not know that alcohol was being served.
The report says The Church on Main hires police officers to keep traffic moving around the site and to deal with a nearby neighbor who comes to events armed with a device to check the decibel level.
It says the UTC sorority members were bused from the campus in order to cut down on the need for parking at the venue.
The report says some students were visibly intoxicated when they got off the bus. It says operators of the venue decided at an early hour to close down the bar. The operators then decided to halt the party early.
