A Chattanooga man recently had a high finish at the BMW Berlin Marathon in Germany. On Sept. 29, Patrick Hall placed 108th out of the 27,562 men who finished the race. He was also the third fastest American.
The Berlin Marathon is one of the six World Marathon Majors. The other five are in New York City, Boston, Chicago, London, and, as of this year, Tokyo. After completing the race in Berlin, Mr. Hall has now run in three of these; he ran the Boston Marathon once and the Chicago Marathon twice.
After previously visiting Germany, Hall wanted to return, and when he found out that a good friend was also going, things began to fall into place. When he crossed the finish line and found out how well he had done, he was extremely excited. He said “I didn't know what to expect.”
Hall has lived in Chattanooga throughout his life, attending Chattanooga Christian School and then Covenant College. He always enjoyed running, saying, “I'm one of those guys who likes to get up every morning and run.”
He also said he usually runs one marathon every year and a half or so, as “it really takes a toll on the body.” He keeps his endurance and stamina up by running in lots of smaller races in between.
When asked what his plans for the future are, Hall said that while nothing was certain yet, he and a friend had joked about tackling the Tokyo Marathon next.
