Bradley County EMS put their new response bicycles to work on Halloween at the annual block party in downtown Cleveland Thursday night. Paramedics David Hanshaw and Allie Taylor suited up in their EMS bike uniforms and went to work to provide any type of medical assistance that might be needed during the evening.
“This is really beneficial in that the medics can maneuver easily through the crowds and respond much quicker to get to someone that is sick or injured,” said Stan Clark, EMS spokesperson.
During the course of the evening they responded to four calls at the block party. Two of the patients had to be transported to the hospital. The other two were treated and released on the scene. None of the injuries were life threatening.
Bradley County EMS also had ambulances staged on the perimeter to transport those patients.
The bicycle program was fully funded by donations from local businesses and would not have been possible without the cooperation and generosity of Scott’s Bicycles in Cleveland, said officials.
