Throughout the month of December

Community Health:  Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Screening.  Free screening to detect bulge in artery wall.  For men and women 65 or older, no previous diagnosis of abdominal aortic aneurysm, and no abdominal CT in the past five years. Memorial Hospital Glenwood, Memorial Hospital Hixson and Memorial Ooltewah.  Registration and appointment required.  Call 423-495-6000 for information and to schedule an appointment.



Dec. 4

Mammography: Memorial Health Care System’s Mobile Health Coach to provide mammogram screenings.  Women age 40 and over who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months are eligible with or without insurance. Location: Harrison Medical Center, 6800 Harrison Park Dr., Harrison, TN 37341. Times: 8:30 am to 4 pm. To schedule an appointment call 423-344-7095. 

Dec. 4

Weight Loss:  Bariatric Seminar.   Attend this FREE informative seminar to learn more about the Gastric Bypass Roux-en-Y and gastric banding weight loss procedures.  This seminar is geared specifically towards individuals who are at least 100 pounds overweight.  6 pm – 7:30 pm, Memorial Hospital Community Rooms.  Call 423-495-2245 for reservations.

Diabetes:   Diabetes Self-Management Program.  This program provides an overview of diabetes and treatment/prevention of complications, diabetes meal planning and carbohydrate counting.  Memorial’s Diabetes and Nutrition Center can help you obtain a physician’s referral and provide cost information.  Diabetes and Nutrition Center at Memorial Hospital.  2:30 pm – 7:30 pm. 2 Shot Tuesday Afternoon On Windsor Street

A man and a woman were shot Tuesday afternoon on Windsor Street. Chattanooga Police were on scene, and two ambulances left the scene with patients. More information will be released when it becomes available. (click for more)

Erlanger Reports Dramatic Increase In Flu-Like Illnesses

The number of influenza-like illnesses treated at Erlanger Health System shows a dramatic increase compared to this time last year.  Erlanger reported treating 156 patients with flu like illnesses between Feb. 12 and 18 of this year. Judge Doug Meyer Lived A Full Life Helping Many

I was sadden to learn of the death of Judge Doug Meyer.  Judge Meyer retired from the Criminal Court bench here in 2006.  Prior to that he had been the Chattanooga city judge for several years.  As a young attorney I tried many cases in front of Judge Meyer.  Also while I was awaiting my case to be tried, I would observe him on the bench.  Judge Meyer ...
