Fire Station 8 Temporarily Relocates Firefighters After Mold Discovered In Station

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Chattanooga firefighters at Station 8 on Hickory Valley Drive have been temporarily relocated after mold was discovered in the building. Fire Chief Lamar Flint said the decision was made around 5 p.m. on Tuesday after tests confirmed mold was present in the station.

“To ensure the health and safety of our firefighters, we believe it’s prudent to move them until the matter is resolved," said Chief Flint.

An environmental cleanup company will be brought in to remove the mold and treat the building to prevent its return.

In the meantime, the firefighters assigned to Station 8 will be housed at Station 6 on Bonny Oaks Drive. The area covered by Station 8 will be covered by the firefighters at Station 6, Station 7 and Station 21.
