  • Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Girls Inc. President and CEO Judy Vredenburgh, Orange County CEO Lucy Santana, and National Scholar Adriana Embus spoke at a Capitol Hill briefing about the importance of supportive girls-only environments in helping girls unleash their inherent strengths. Congressman Luke Messer (R-IN) opened the briefing.

Ms. Embus is an alumna from Columbus, Ga., who attended Girls Inc. since second grade and is now at Yale University. She spoke about how Girls Inc. helped her cope with her father's PTSD from military service, take on leadership roles, explore STEM, and thrive at a competitive high school.

Ms. Embus also shared how Girls Inc. supported her at an exclusive meeting with the First Lady's chief of staff and policy director. Girls Inc. is partnering with Mrs. Obama on her newest initiative to encourage more low-income students to attend college.
