Property Purchased To Take Riverwalk Across Old Wheland, U.S. Pipe Sites

  • Monday, November 4, 2013

The County Commission is expected to approve on Wednesday the purchase of a tract that will take the Tennessee Riverwalk across the old Wheland and U.S. Pipe properties.

The five-acre purchase is for the appraised value of $413,600.

Todd Leamon, public works administrator, said Perimeter is donating other property for the Riverwalk.

He said most of the property has now been bought to take the Riverwalk from its current Terminus at Ross's Landing Park to St. Elmo.

It will go near Mount Vernon Restaurant to a connection with the trailhead at John Wilson Park at the foot of the mountain. From there, it will be tied in with trails going as far as Covenant College. Eventually, there should be a connection with the new Cloudland Connector Trail that stretches all the way to Cloudland Canyon State Park.

Mr. Leamon said negotiations are still underway with PSC Metals.
