Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County: 

U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing temporary lane shifts and lane reduction operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December.  

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to perform road work.  During this report period, the contractor will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is February 2015.  

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  Traffic has been switched to the new pavement on the north side of the roadway to will allow the contractor access to work on the south side of the roadway.  Drivers are urged to be alert to the new pattern and obey all traffic signs.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November.   

U.S. 27 (Rossville Blvd.) resurfacing from Foust Street (LM 5.62) to the Georgia State Line (LM 7.93):  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will have lane closures Thursday in both directions to perform striping operations from 7 p.m.-6 a.m.  From Sunday–Wednesday, the contractor will be working on project during daylight hours.  No lane closures will be in place but workers will slow traffic’s speed to stripe project.  THP and/or flaggers will be present to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is November.  

Construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September 2014.  

SR-58 resurfacing from north of Eller Road (LM 6.43) to Lakewood Acres Drive (LM 9.20):  Work on project continues.  The contractor will be paving during this report period.  There will be temporary lane closures as required on this project.  One lane in each direction will remain open at all times.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated completion time is November.  

I-75 from MM 13.9 to MM 25.3 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System:  Work on this project continues.  There will be daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs work for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May 2014.  



Brooker Road In Whitfield County To Be Closed Aug. 3-Sept. 28

Brooker Drive in Whitfield County will be closed for new road construction from Aug. 3-Sept. 28, according to Whitfield County officials.  The road will be closed to through traffic between Raisin Woods and Underwood Road.  Detour from the east side: North along Underwood Road, then west along Dawnville Road, then south on Brooker Drive.  Detour from west ... Woman Stabbed To Death At College Hill Courts; 2nd Person Hurt; Suspect In Custody

A woman was stabbed to death at College Hill Courts on Wednesday night. At approximately 10:27 p.m., the Chattanooga Police Department responded to 1400 Cypress Street Court for a stabbing. Cohutta Bank On Highway 58 Robbed

For the second day in a row, a Chattanooga bank was robbed by a white male. Chattanooga Police responded to Cohutta Bank in the 5600 block of Highway 153 on the report of a robbery on Wednesday afternoon.
