Fire Leaves Elderly Couple Homeless

Friday, November 8, 2013

Fire raced through an elderly couple’s home Friday night, but they were not injured.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the initial alarm at 7:05 p.m., and responded to 2506 Goforth Lane with several fire companies.

Battalion Chief Fredrick Blake said smoke and flames were visible toward the rear of the small house, near the kitchen, when the first firefighters arrived.

Chief Blake said Sofia and Ronald Fields got out of their home safely, but the flames were spreading quickly through the house.

The firefighters got the blaze under control in roughly 15 minutes. An estimate on the loss was not available, but Chief Blake described the damage as substantial.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

I think the split could go either way, and Signal Mountain schools would still flourish, as they have done for the past several years. What I'm worried about is why Signal Mountain has not yet had the guts to go be problem solvers at Howard, or Tyner, or Central. Why do ... (click for more)
