The operator of a women's clinic at Jasper, Tn., is facing federal charges.
A three-page criminal information was brought at Federal Court at Chattanooga against Dr. Charles Michael Howe.
It charges that he "did knowingly and intentionally dispense, and cause to be dispensed, controlled substances, outside the scope of professional practice and not for a legitimate medical purpose."
He is charged in 14 different counts involving different patients dating back to Oct. 3, 2011. The most recent charge is for May 1, 2013.
Seven of the cases involving dispensing of hydrocodone and six are for oxycodone. Another is for methadone.
The complaint is brought by the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Alabama.
It asks that he be required to forfeit his 2005 Ford Thunderbird convertible.
