Arrests have been made in connection with a stolen car with some machetes and hunting knives inside the vehicle outside Northgate Mall.

In the incident on Sunday, an off-duty police officer was advised that several males were trying to break into a black Honda. The tag on the vehicle came back to a Soddy Daisy man.

The vehicle was observed in the parking lot of Applebees by the main entrance to the mall. Three males were in the vehicle.

The off-duty officer ordered all three to exit the vehicle and get on the ground.

Several machetes and several hunting knives, with blades exceeding four inches, were visible in the vehicle.

Eric David Smith, 18, of 5949 Crest View Dr., and Blake West, 21, of 4940 Sarasota Dr., Hixson,  were charged with theft over $10,000 and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Officials said West had earlier been banned from CBL property.
