EPB business customers have been targeted by a telephone scam that continues in several states throughout the country.
Business customers are reportedly getting calls from people claiming to be with EPB, who demand immediate payment for past due electric bills. The imposters ask the customer to purchase a MoneyPak (reloadable debit card) at retailers like Walmart, Walgreens, CVS or Rite Aid, and then call back with the account number from the card.
This is a scam. EPB never calls customers asking for payments to be made with pre-paid debit cards. EPB wants to ensure all of its customers’ accounts and personal information remain safe.
Customers are asked to alert the community about this scam, by calling to report any incidents like this at 423 648-1372.
