A man has been charged with domestic assault after a standoff Wednesday night with police.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Chattanooga Police responded to a domestic violence call at 315 Tremont St.  It was reported that a man had physically assaulted a woman at that location.

Prior to officers' arrival, it was reported that the suspect fired a single shot with a handgun into the air for an unknown reason.  Once officers arrived, Alexander Petrochko was observed on the front porch with a rifle as he was walking inside.

The SWAT Team and the Hostage Negotiation Team were notified and responded. After several hours of attempted negotiation, it was found that Petrochko was not in the residence and that he had contacted an attorney.

He later was booked into the Hamilton County Jail.
