The City Council voted Tuesday to extend the city's contract that provides financial support to the McKamey Animal Center.
The extension is through next June 30.
Councilman Larry Grohn said since the council did not pass a proposed new animal ordinance that a number of adjustments need to be made to the current ordinance to get it in line with current practices.
Jeff Cannon, city chief operating officer, said the extension will give the city time to work on such issues.
He also noted that McKamey is getting a new executive director as well as a new leader of its board of directors.
