Ensemble Theatre of Chattanooga will open its 2014 season with the musical The Color Purple, based on Alice Walker's award winning book and the film of the same name.  Celie, Alice Walker's iconic protagonist, comes to life onstage in a show that mixes gospel with the blues, jazz with pop and is filled with a plethora of emotion, officials said.

The show runs Jan. 16-26.  Thursday, Friday and Saturday showtimes are at 7:30, Sunday show times at 2:30.  Tickets cost $20 for general admission, $15 for students with a valid ID.

Tickets can be purchased at https://www.artful.ly/store/events/2226, then clicking the day on the calendar for the show you want to see.  There is a $2 charge, however to forgo the charge, call the theatre at 602-8640 to purchase tickets with no surcharge.

To show appreciation to the Eastgate Town Center Community, any employee within the community can attend on Thursday nights for the student price.  Please call to make those reservations, however.
