A motel search for another man led to a four-year federal prison sentence for another Chattanooga man.

Judge Curtis Collier on Thursday sentenced Denario Small on a conviction of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Chattanooga Police on March 31 were searching for a suspect on an unrelated matter when they walked by a motel room and noticed a strong smell of marijuana.

Small was in the room along with marijuana and a Sentry safe with a loaded Titan .38 special revolver in it.

Small was previously convicted of burglary and grand theft.
