Dorothy Loggins Griffith, 87, of Summerville, Georgia, died on Thursday, December 19, 2013, in Carterville Medical Center.

Mrs. Griffith was born Feb. 17, 1926, in Trion, Ga., the daughter of the late Frank and Ola Littlejohn Loggins. She was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Fuller Jewelry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy Griffith, Sr., and a daughter, Anna Jane Griffith.

Survivors include her son, Troy Griffith, JR and wife, Tammy Griffith, of Adairsville, Ga., grandchildren, Troy “Tripp” Griffith III, and Traci Griffith; sisters, Pauline Loggins and Irene Lancaster.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Mason Funeral Home with Reverend Kevin Norton officiating. Burial will follow in West Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tripp Griffith, Kenneth Blansit, Waymon Blansit, Sean Maxwell, Wayne Lancaster, Billy Dewayne Cline, Elliott Rountree, and Delane Blansit. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe McDonald, and all residents and staff of Star Manor, and the Blansit Family.

Mrs. Griffith will be in state at Mason Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013.

City Applies For $27 Million Federal Grant On $52 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

The city is applying for a $27 million federal TIGER 6 grant for a $52 million complete reworking of the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge.
