Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing paving operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays-Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is January.  

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is February 2015. 

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  The contractor will be paving during this report period as weather and temperatures permit.  Drivers are urged to be alert and to obey all traffic signs.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is January.  

Construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September.  

I-75 from MM 13.9 to MM 25.3 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System:  Work on this project continues.  There will be daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs work for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May.  

Urban League Offers Free Tax Prep Assistance To First Responders

Police officers and firefighters are invited to have their taxes prepared for free next week through the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga’s VITA program. Urban League and the IRS are designating one day to do free tax preparation and e-filing services for all Chattanooga and Hamilton County police officers and firefighters. Young Boy Struck By Car On South Beech Street; Hit And Run Driver Sought

A young boy was hit by a car on South Beech Street on Saturday. He was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Police said the car left the scene. Officers were looking for two men in a red or orange Dodge Challenger. (click for more)

Clark D. Nolan, Accused Of Imprisoning And Assaulting Wife, Found Competent To Stand Trial

A Graysville, Tn., man who allegedly strangled, assaulted and threatened to kill his wife while holding her prisoner in their home is competent to stand trial, according to two forensic evaluators.
