Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

U.S. 41 (SR-8, Ringgold Rd.) grading, drainage and paving at the intersection of I 75 South off-ramp (LM 1.07) at Exit 1:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor will be working on Exit 1 on I-75 South at East Ridge performing paving operations during this report period.  Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on Mondays-Saturdays.  Unless a major backup occurs, traffic on I-75 should not be affected.  In the future this job could require a temporary lane/shoulder closure on I-75 South.  THP and flaggers will assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is January.  

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is February 2015. 

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving:  Work continues on this project.  The contractor will be paving during this report period as weather and temperatures permit.  Drivers are urged to be alert and to obey all traffic signs.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is January.  

Construction of a State Industrial Access route serving Volkswagen Group of America, including grading, drainage and paving:  Work on this project continues.  The contractor is in the process of clearing and taking care of environmental measures in order to start on road and drainage.  Traffic will not be impacted at this time therefore, no lane closures are needed.  Estimated project completion date is September.  

I-75 from MM 13.9 to MM 25.3 expansion of Chattanooga SmartWay Intelligent Traffic System:  Work on this project continues.  There will be daytime shoulder closures throughout the project area as the contractor performs work for future traffic cameras and dynamic message signs.  Estimated completion date is May.  

Scenic City Clay Arts Has Moved To Downtown Facility At Arts Build; Grand Opening March 11

Scenic City Clay Arts has moved downtown to the Arts Build building on 11th Street. A Grand Opening reception will be held on March 11.  The community is invited to an Open House from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., with an evening reception from 4-7 p.m.  There will be food, beer, wine and clay.   SCCA is a non-profit, community pottery studio serving Chattanooga and the surrounding ... Whitfield County Transit Service Changes Schedule On Wednesday Due To Weather

Due to the threat of severe storms, Whitfield County Transit Service will begin afternoon return trips for agency clients at  12:30 p.m.  on Wednesday.   Scheduled services for dialysis patients on Wednesday will be honored.  All other trips are canceled for the remainder of the day otherwise.  Regular services hours are planned for Thursday . Boyd Says Visitors Bureau Spending $25,000 A Month On Travel; Doak Agrees To Meeting

County Commission Finance Committee Chairman Tim Boyd on Wednesday said the Chattanooga Visitors Bureau regularly spends about $25,000 per month on travel. He said that was "one of the first items that caught my eye" after he said he got "an inch thick" packet from Auditor Jenneth Randall about CVB finances.
