Shannon, Dorothy Weems

Dorothy Weems Shannon, 80, of Hixson, died on Sunday, December 1, 2013. 

She was born to John and Gladys Gudel on December 9, 1932. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank, and she was retired from the United States Postal Service in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. Her trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and her faith in God leave us with great joy in knowing that we will be reunited someday.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Gudel; husbands, Hamp Weems and Paul Shannon; brothers, Bob and Bud Gudel; and sister, Helen Gudel.

Survivors include her daughters, Sharon (Bobby) Hodson, Donna (Robert) Lewis, Rhonda (Scott) Lowe, and Amy Weems; step-son, Paul Gene (Barbara) Shannon; sisters, Lib Pope of Jacksonville, Fl.; Johnnye Kiel of Richland, Washington; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3,  at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home chapel with Reverend Dwight Martin and Reverend Ron Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Visitation is after 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for the kind care of their mother. Memorial contributions may be made to the mission program at Calvary Baptist Church, 5201 Dayton Blvd., Red Bank, Tn. 37415, in Mrs. Shannon’s memory.
