City To Update Aquarium Plaza, St. Elmo Park, John A. Patten Restrooms; Check WPA Ditches

  • Tuesday, December 3, 2013

The City Council on Tuesday approved contracts that will update the Aquarium Plaza as well as the St. Elmo Park and the John A. Patten Center restrooms.

The Aquarium Plaza work went to Yerbey Concrete Construction for $196,429.

The other work went to First Place Finish for $146,764.

Lee Norris, public works administrator, said some pavers at the Aquarium Plaza have settled over the years. He said they will be taken up and reinforced.

Also, he said some trees need to be replaced.

Another contract to inspect WPA ditches around the city went to AMEC Environment and Infrastructure for $625,000.

Mr. Norris said the ditches were put in over 70 years and in many cases have deteriorated.

He said a house was built over one.

The firm will recommend needed improvements to the ditches.
