South Pittsburg Falls In Class A Championship Game 23-14

 The Pirates of South Pittsburg came up short Friday afternoon in the Class A State Championship game at Tennessee Tech.  The Pirates scored first but fell behind in the first half and powerful Union City held on in the second half for a 23-14 win. 

 Union City scored three straight touchdowns in the first half to lead 20-7.

Jajuan Lankford scored on a one yard run for S. Pittsburg in the first quarter.

 Neither team scored in the third quarter. 

S. Pittsburg cut the led to 20-14 in the fourth quarter after Khalil Mitchell scored on a 17 yard run.

Union City answered with a 21 yard field goal with 5:43 in the game.

S. Pittsburg ended up with 131 yards on the ground and 160 in the air.

Union City had 319 total yards, all on the ground.  Union City attempted no passes. 

 Khalil Mitchell led the Pirates with  107 rushing yards.  Jajuan Lankford was held to just 40 yards.

City Applies For $27 Million Federal Grant On $52 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

The city is applying for a $27 million federal TIGER 6 grant for a $52 million complete reworking of the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge.
