Covenant's Gillespie Named NCCAA Baseball Player Of The Week

The honor marks the third time this season that a Covenant player has won the award.

Soccer players Matt Hudnut and Hudson Brock were also NCCAA Players of the Week in the fall.LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Sophomore outfielder Scott Gillespie has been selected as the NCCAA Baseball Player of the Week, announced the association on Tuesday afternoon.

The sophomore from Milton, Ga., went 4-for-7 in a doubleheader sweep of Berea over the weekend. Gillespie had three hits in game one with two runs scored and a run batted in as Covenant won 4-3 in extra innings. In game two of the series, Gillespie had a double in three at-bats as the Scots claimed a 6-0 win.

Gillespie and the Scots are back in action on Friday with a single game against Emory & Henry at 2 p.m. Both teams will then face off in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.


Carly Morrow Moss Enters GPS Sports Hall of Fame

An all-state performer in soccer, basketball and track and field at GPS, Cary Morrow Moss (’07) was inducted into the school’s sports hall of fame Saturday. Woman Gets Workhouse Time, Lengthy Supervised Probation In Hit-And-Run Death Of Man On Moped

A Trenton, Ga. woman was given a four-year sentence following a lengthy hearing in the December 2012 hit-and-run death of a man in St. Elmo. Betty Mundy will serve 11 months and 29 days of the sentence in the workhouse and then be under a lengthy supervised probation, Judge Barry Steelman said.  She was charged in the death of 56-year-old David Joe Bruce. Angela Faye Shepherd (formerly Parker), 50, was arrested early Sunday morning after stabbing another female. Chattanooga Police responded to 2302 Glass Street at 12:15 a.m. to an assault.
