World War II Veteran Retired From DuPont After 39 Years

George Irwin

George E. Irwin, 87, of Soddy Daisy, died on Monday, February 11, 2013. 

He was formerly employed by DuPont for 39 years. He was a deacon and a lifetime member of the Soddy Church of Christ. He was a WWII Army veteran. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bobbie Lou Irwin; his parents, Myrtle Caldwell and Jake Irwin, and parents-in-law, James and Edith Lovelady; daughters, Loucretta Ann Irwin, and Deborah Kay Taylor; brother, Thomas Irwin.

Survivors include his daughter, Janice (Sam) Kennedy of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Sherry (Scott) Holt Mast of Nashville; Kristi Taylor Bumpus of Jasper, Aaron Taylor of Chattanooga; great grandchildren, Jack and Sam Mast, Payne and Ryan Bumpus; sister-in-law, Jimmie Irwin, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. 

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, with military honors at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Minister Bill Greer officiating.
