Ruth Eden Smith, 83, of Chattanooga, died at her residence on Friday, February 15, 2013 after an illness.

Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church and the Courtney-Parks Sunday School Class.  She was a dedicated homemaker. She spent more than 30 years volunteering at Erlanger and also volunteered with Chattanooga Community Kitchen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin H. Smith, Jr.; and her parents, Carlton and Phyllis Eden.

Surviving are her two sons, Steve Smith of Chattanooga, and Terry Smith and his wife, Beth of Tupelo, Ms.; two granddaughters, Lindsay Abbott and her husband, Brad of Anderson, S.C., and Lauren Miller and her husband Cooper of Atlanta; and cousins, Coralie (Everette) Humphrey and Gailya (Ken) Hall.

Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb 17, at First Baptist Church of Chattanooga, 401 Gateway Avenue, Chattanooga, Tn. 37402.  

Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church with Dr. Thomas Quisenberry officiating.

Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens in Hixson.

Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory, and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tn. 37343.

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge.
