Downtown Chattanooga Gets First Snow Covering Of The Year; Does Not Last Long

Saturday, February 2, 2013

A spurt of heavy snowfall at mid-morning Saturday blanketed downtown Chattanooga with snow for the first time this season.

The snow began at around 10:30 a.m. and quickly covered streets and lawns.

Roads became slippery and some were temporarily closed.

The Mowbray Mountain Volunteer Fire Department closed Hotwater Road, Mountain Road and Montlake Road until roads are sanded and salted. Those roads were later reopened.

Many roadways remained slick, and some cars skidded into ditches or off the roadway.

The surprise snow did not last long, however, and was melting away by early afternoon.
