Held 37-Year Career With Electric Power Board

Franklin George “F.G.” Longley, 87, died Friday, February 1, 2013.  

He was born and raised in Apison and was the son of the late George and Elsie (Tallent) Longley.  He was baptized at an early age in Poe’s Creek by Rev. C.H. Petty and was a member of Apison Baptist Church.  From the age of 12, he worked the family farm.  He also worked 37 years at the Electric Power Board.  He was a member of the Ooltewah Masonic Lodge. 

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Eva Kirkland and Gladys Dotson.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Davis Longley; daughters, Myra (Jerry) Burgess and Joy (David) Newby; grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Newby; brother, Earl Longley; sisters, Bettye Jean Kinsley, Martha Settle; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3, with the funeral service to follow in the East Brainerd Chapel at 3 p.m. with the Reverend Bob Dasal and the Reverend Leroy Spinks officiating.  A private burial will be held in Plowman Cemetery

Woman Killed In Early-Morning Wreck On Thrasher Pike

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash in the 1200 block of Thrasher Pike early Saturday morning. Soddy Daisy Police Chief Phillip Hamrick said a female passenger was ejected from the vehicle. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge. The City Council on Tuesday is to consider a resolution to apply for a $25 million federal TIGER grant. The city would still have to come up with $21,825,000 through "local funds or grants."
