Hammons, L.B. "Casey" (Benton)

L. B. “Casey” Hammons, 75, of Benton,TN,  passed away Monday, February 18, 2013 at McMinn Memorial Healthcare. 

He was retired from the Forestry Service. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benson and Minnie Rymer Hammons; daughter, Linda Hammons; brothers, Frank Hammons and Wayne Hammons; and two infant sisters. 

He is survived by his wife, Betty Duckworth Hammons of Benton; children, Susan Jolley and husband Marc of Macon, GA, Joe Hammons and wife Bridgett of Riceville, Benson Hammons and friend Christine Phillips of Polk County, Calvin Hammons and wife Teresa of Old Fort and Burch Hammons and wife Heather of Cummings, GA; step-children, Carolyn Flanigan of Chattanooga, Jeannie Cuervo and husband Bryan of McDonald and Gene Bagby of Cummings, GA; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Abie Hammons of Benton. 

A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday, February 21, at Campground Cemetery with the Reverend Steve Ross officiating. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20 at Higgins Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangements. 


Heuser, Valetta Jean (Rock Spring)

Valetta Jean Heuser, 93, of Rock Spring, died on Monday, May 20, 2013 in a local hospital. Mrs. Heuser was a charter member of Ft. James G. “Jaybird” Henderson, Sr., 66, of Chickamauga, died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at his residence following a three-year battle with cancer. Reverend Robert Calvin Stitts, founding and longtime pastor at Bayside Baptist Church in Harrison, Tennessee, died of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) on Wednesday at the Chattanooga Hospice Center.  He was 75.  A deep, abiding faith marked his passing. Carl Eugene “Gene” Watson, Sr., 77, of Hixson, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.  Gene was a member of the Chattanooga Community Church of God.
