Weekly Road Construction Report

Thursday, February 21, 2013

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

U.S. 27 (SR-29) reconstruction project from Manufacturers Road (Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River) to U.S. 127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Boulevard):  Weather permitting, the contractor will have lane closures throughout the project area on weeknights from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. to perform road work.  They will also be working on retaining walls and bridges throughout the project area.  During this report period, the contractor will implement temporary lane closures on U.

S. 27 South to shift the southbound lanes to a new alignment.  The new alignment will result in traffic traveling south on U.S. 27 being routed onto the newly-constructed southbound lanes from Signal Mountain Boulevard to the closed Whitehall Road slip ramp.  Traffic entering from Signal Mountain Boulevard onto U.S. 27 South will also be routed onto the new southbound lanes.  This traffic configuration will remain in effect until the remaining southbound retaining walls and the ramps to Manufacturers Road are completed, which is scheduled to take place by early June 2013.  Also on Friday, Manufacturers Road will be closed from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. between the old entrance and exit ramps to U.S. 27 to allow the contractor to remove overhead framework from a recent bridge deck pour.  The Manufacturers Road entrance ramp onto US 27 North has been closed until spring 2013 to allow for construction of several retaining walls and portions of new bridges.  Detours are posted.  The Manning Street entrance ramp to U.S. 27 North and the Manning Street and Whitehall Road exit ramps from U.S. 27 North have been permanently closed.  All work is weather permitting.  Should inclement weather prevent work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place at the earliest possible time.  During nighttime work, at least one lane will remain open in each direction.  THP will assist with traffic control on the project as necessary.  Estimated project completion date is December 2014.

Shallowford Road widening project from Gunbarrel Road to Jenkins Road, including grading drainage, and paving: The contractor will be laying pipe across the roadway at several locations.  This work will be performed during the day on weekdays only.  Flaggers will be in place to assist with traffic control.  Estimated project completion date is September.

Roy Exum: So How Am I Really Doing?

I’ve gotten hundreds of jokes since Tuesday when I wrote about feeling a little puny lately and expressing my belief that laughter is the best medicine. After breaking some bones in my arm as I slept last week and having no idea there were already some other fractures, it looked pretty certain I had a case of “The Big C.” I’ve always felt that stands for “courage” but the medical ...
