GOP Drops The Ball On Violence Against Women Act - And Response

Sunday, February 24, 2013

It looks like the GOP has once again dropped the ball in regards to the Violence Against Women Act. The House version does not include protection for lesbian and transgender women. I guess with the Good Ole Boy party, all that matters is protecting straight people from violence.

I find this very appalling. When will people stop living in the past with their outdated, puritanical beliefs?

This country needs to move forward, and people with open minds are much better at doing just that. Lesbian and transgender women deserve the same rights as everyone else.

I thought it was already illegal to beat, assault someone (regardless of sex or sexual orientation).  Why do we need a special law to say it again?  If we do, why aren’t men protected also?  While we are at it, we should probably ask for a special law to protect women for being murdered.  I am sure they will remember lesbian and transgenders in that one.

Too many [special] people think they need some sort of “statement.”  Just enforce the laws we already have.
