20-Year-Old Gets 32-Year Sentence In Federal Court

Monday, February 25, 2013

A 20-year-old was sentenced in Chattanooga Federal Court on Monday to serve 32 years in federal prison.

Antonio Quintez Wynn appeared before Judge Sandy Mattice.

Both the prosecutor and defense attorney agreed that Wynn faced one 25-year mandatory sentence and a second consecutive seven-year sentence.

Attorney Hilary Hodgkins said Wynn "is a very optimistic fellow." She said he told her he would be able to get the education in prison that he had not been able to obtain while out.

"It's a very sad case," attorney Hodgkins said.

Wynn was one of two Chattanooga youths facing lengthy federal prison sentences after earlier pleading guilty in Federal Court to back-to-back armed robberies, including one in which a gun was fired.

Wynn and Jamereus Quashun Benford pleaded guilty in connection with holdups at two different Lee Highway locations on Aug. 9 and 10, 2011.

Benford, who was 19 at the time he was taken into custody, faces 10 years to life.

Benford will be sentenced on March 4.

In the robbery on Aug. 9, 2011, at Quick Loans at 6215 Lee Highway, the manager said two armed men entered the business and demanded money. They put her and two female employees in a storage closet while they searched for cash.

The pair took approximately $1,700 from the business.

They also took the manager's car keys at gunpoint and stole her 2008 Honda Accord.

Then on the next day they robbed the Family Dollar at 7307 Lee Highway. In that holdup, Benford discharged a gun because the clerk was not filling the bag with money fast enough.

After that holdup, Benford was stopped by police in a silver 1997 Lexus with a black ragtop in the 3700 block of Wilcox Boulevard. Officers could see a black handgun, a camouflage type mask and a Family Dollar bag in plain view.

Police also found $720 cash and a jacket worn during the robbery in the car.

Police located Wynn at 3402 Frawley St. He opened the door to the residence wearing only a towel. He asked police to get him his clothes in an upstairs bedroom. In a bag in the bedroom were clothes worn during the robbery and a cell phone taken during the holdup.

They gave confessions after they were taken to police headquarters.

New Cleveland High Gym Completion Pushed Back 6 Days Due To Rainy Weather

Earlier rainy weather has pushed back the promised completion date for the new Cleveland High School gymnasium by six days. The new date is March 2. Architect Brian Templeton said the rain caused delays in roofing and concrete work. But he said much of the roof is now complete, so rain will no longer be a construction factor. He said inside structural work is ongoing ... (click for more)

Sheriff Hammond Is Right On The Muslim Threat - And Response (2)

Sheriff Hammond is exactly correct on the Muslims in Tennessee.  He sees with clear eyes the problem with the Muslims in our state and country.  They do want to take over Tennessee.  Our politicians are selling us down the river and allowing the trouble makers to dig in like tics and suck out the life's blood of our Constitution and take us over.  They ... Roy Exum: The Barners Trounce Who?

There is a website known as Grammarly that just completed a profound study. An automated proof-reading company (who I hope never finds out about me) collected 100 comments that each included over 50 words from the comment blogs of the nation’s preseason Top 25 college football teams. Then they fed them into the company’s huge algorithm computer and checked each fan base for punctuation, ... (click for more)

Pugh, Smith Lead Sale Creek Past East Ridge, 3-0

If Sale Creek’s Bailey Pugh and Ariana Smith were a comedy act, Pugh would be Ed McMahan and Smith would play Johnny Carson. On the court, Pugh sets up Smith, who finishes things with killer punch lines. That was certainly the case Tuesday at East Ridge High School where the visiting Lady Panthers rolled over the Lady Pioneers, 3-0, with game scores of 25-16, 25-8 and ... (click for more)

Luthringer, Boyd Earn First Wins In Prep Cross Country Tuesday

There were a couple of first-time winners on Tuesday afternoon at Camp Jordan as the Chattanooga Cross Country League had its first official meet of the season. It was plenty hot and the humidity was relentless, so race officials decided to shorten the first race from the customary 5K distance to a two-mile test. The heat didn’t seem to bother the overall winners as Signal ... (click for more)
