Calvin Dawes Keeton, of East Ridge, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at home. He was 88.
Calvin was born in Carbon Hill, Ala., on Jan. 9, 1925, to the late Zora Cheatham Keeton and Virgil Monroe Keeton of Walker County, Ala. After graduating from Carbon Hill High School, he served his country in the Army during World War II. After discharge from the Army, he attended and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. His entire professional career was with the Tennessee Valley Authority. In March of 1951, he married Rita Carolyn Dodd of Nauvoo, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and sister, Alene (Drexel Ivie).
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rita Keeton; son, Calvin Dawes Keeton, Jr. (Robbie Newman) of Soddy Daisy; daughter, Joan Marie Keeton Hurst (Michael Caldwell Hurst) of Sewanee; grandchildren, Catherine Finn Keeton Hurst of Sewanee, April (Larry) Zappaterrini of Malvera, PA and Thomas Nance of Carrollton, Va.; great-grandchild, Ava Zappaterrini; sister, Verna Keeton Smith (Wallace Smith); and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Susan Barry and Kim Pohlkette and the East Ridge Fire Department.
There will not be any visitation at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. with Reverend Joseph H. Ballard of Otey Memorial Parish in Sewanee officiating.
