Moats, "Sonny" Clyde (Cleveland)

“Sonny” Clyde Moats, 87, of Cleveland, TN, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 at a Chattanooga hospice facility. 

He was a member of Ocoee Baptist Church. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Moats; parents, General and Lizzy Moats; sons, Michael, LaVaughn and Danny Moats; grandson, Brandon Moats; and brothers, Kennith and G.W. Moats. 

He is survived by his children, Archie Moats, Golda and Russell Coward, Edward and Brenda Moats and Thelma and Diego Valencia, all of Cleveland; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence Moats; sister, Audrey Peters; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 28, at Chestuee Baptist Church, located in the Chestuee Community in Polk Co. with the Reverend Jim Smith and the Reverend Gary Higgins officiating. Interment will follow in Chestuee Baptist Church Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, at Higgins Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements, and on Thursday, February 28 from 1-2 p.m. at Chestuee Baptist Church prior to the service.

Earl Spear, 87, of Hixson, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at home. Mr. Spear farmed in Pompano Beach for over 30 years, then came to Chattanooga in 1981, and developed Montlake Golf and Country Club Estates with the help of his brother, Fred Spear. Walker Charged With Sunday Night Murder Of Girlfriend In LaFayette

A 29-year-old Walker County man has been charged with murdering his girlfriend, also 29. Sheriff Steve Wilson said David Ryan Walker was charged in the slaying of Candace Ann Hankins. Man With Gun Runs From Police At Hamilton Place Mall; Pushes Shoppers Out Of The Way

A man who was found to be armed with a handgun was chased by police early Saturday afternoon. He pushed shoppers out of the way during the pursuit, which included racing down an escalator.   Erwin J.
