Tennessee Department Of Correction Helps With Cleanup Efforts After Storms

  • Sunday, February 3, 2013

The Tennessee Department of Correction is assisting with cleanup efforts after this week’s storms devastated a Middle Tennessee community.

A crew of minimum-security inmates from the Turney Center Industrial Complex, along with the security staff, has been clearing downed trees and debris in the Hickman County town of Coble. The town was hit hard by Tuesday night’s tornado which destroyed dozens of homes in Coble.

“We are committed to being good neighbors to the people of Coble who have experienced loss as a result of the storm,” Commissioner Derrick D. Schofield said. “We will do our part to help and the offenders appreciate an opportunity to repay their debts to society.”

The Department of Correction will continue to make the inmate work crew available next week to assist the town of Coble as needed.
