Lynyrd Skynyrd To Return To Riverbend!

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

The legendary rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd is still going strong after decades.  Fresh on the heels of a new album, Lynyrd Skynyrd will rock Riverbend fans from the Coke Stage on Thursday, June 13, 2013.

Skynyrd returns with a fiery slice of Southern style guitar rock heaven in Last of a Dyin' Breed, their latest release on Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records which released last August. This is the kind of record guaranteed to feed the needs of the multi-generational Skynyrd Nation, and continue the renewed vigor the band exhibited with their last album, 2009's God & Guns.

Despite surviving tragedy and the hard miles of rock 'n roll, Skynyrd is remarkably at this stage of their career, on a roll. God & Guns debuted at #18 on the Billboard Top 200, giving the band their highest debut since 1977.

Skynyrd is known for hits like "Free Bird," "Simple Man," Gimme Three Steps," "Sweet Home Alabama," and many more.

Drake White will open for Lynyrd Skynyrd, starting at 9:30 PM on the Coke Stage June 13th.

White is an aspiring singer songwriter living in Nashville, TN.  The Hokes Bluff, Alabama native has a very different country feel with a freestyle twist on many of his original songs.  He ad-libs throughout a show phrasing rhythmic lyrics as his entertaining live show unfolds.  The 27 year old credits many country, blues, rock, freestyle and bluegrass influences with helping to form his musical sound that is unique in its own way.

Steel Pulse is one of Britain's greatest reggae bands.  They started out playing authentic roots reggae with touches of jazz and Latin music, and earned a substantial audience worldwide. Their 1978 debut, Hands worth Revolution, is still regarded by many critics as a landmark and a high point of British reggae. By the late '80s, Steel Pulse had won a Grammy and was working full-fledged crossover territory. They subsequently returned to a tough-minded, rootsy sound and have added touches of dance hall and hip-hop along the way.

Steel Pulse will jam on the Bud Light Stage, Saturday, June 15th at 7:30 PM.

Star Seating is available for the Jake Owen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dierks Bentley, Brandy, and Newsboys performances. On sale now for $20 in addition to admission! Call 423.756.2211 for info.

Thankful For The Vital Role Teachers Played In My Life

Re: Roy Exum: Teachers Day Tomorrow Roy, I am especially appreciative of your poignant column written in tribute to teachers.  It made me tear up, as I have encountered both as a student and a career educator-- teachers like the second-grade teacher who said, "I wish you were my little girl" and teachers like Mrs. Poindexter.   My teachers have played such a vital ... When the Chattanooga City Council gave Kevin Muhammad, who is purportedly the “leader” of the Nation of Islam’s “Chattanooga chapter” or whatever it is, “the right” to speak for 20 anguished minutes on Monday night, everybody who heard about it could have told our city leaders it was “stinkin’ thinkin’.” My goodness, did you think he was going to read a sweet passage from the ...
