Air Force Veteran Was Munitions Expert

James Paul “J.P.” McCutcheon, 78, of Rossville, died on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at his residence. 

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia area.  He was a United States Air Force veteran and while serving in the Air Force he began his career as a munitions expert. After his service in the military, he owned and operated several local businesses primarily in the used car industry. His passions in life include his family, drag racing, working on all types of vehicles and anything mechanical.  He was always eager to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris McCutcheon; parents, L.P. and Blanche McCutcheon; sisters, Judy K. Willis and Marjorie Cooper.

Survivors include his wife, June McCutcheon; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kelley McCutcheon of Ringgold; step-children, Methea Dalton of Chickamauga, Dustin Abbott of Rossville, and Cecil Abbott of Signal Mountain; granddaughter, Piper McCutcheon of Ringgold; brother, Tony McCutcheon of Rocky Face; four sisters, Sharon (Wayne) Connally of Cohutta, Glenda (Jorge) Acosta of Mobile, Al., Myra Murray of Merritt Island, Fl., and Renee McCutcheon of Rocky Face; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Gurney Beard officiating.

Interment will be on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 8, from 5-8 p.m., and Saturday, from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
