Brooks, George Washington Jr. (Summerville)

George Washington Brooks, Jr., 87, of Summerville, GA  passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab Center.  

Mr. Brooks was born March 13, 1925 in Chattooga County, GA.  He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II, and was retired from Mohawk Industries.     

Mr. Brooks was preceded in death by wife, Mary Alice Brooks; sons, Preston Anthony Brooks and Edward Striker; father and mother, George Washington Brooks, Sr. and Annie Smart Brooks; and several brothers and sisters.   

Mr. Brooks is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Philip Matthew and Kathi Brooks of Lyerly, GA; daughters and sons-in-laws, Jeanne and J. D. Rape of Trio and Peggy and Tim Cordell of Summerville; grandchildren, Shawn Hall, Damien Brooks, Trace Cordell, Shane Cordell, and Blake Cordell; and two great-grandchildren.   

A funeral service was held Sunday, February 4, at the Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Johnson officiating.  Interment was in the Summerville Cemetery.   Active pallbearers were Damien Brooks, Shane Cordell, Blake Cordell, Trace Cordell, Tim Cordell, J. D. Rape, and Shawn Hall.   

There was no visitation.

Dog Fighting Operation Uncovered On Talledega Avenue

TBI was executing a narcotics search warrant at 6302Talladega Ave. in Chattanooga on Friday and uncovered a dog fighting operation. City May Move Forward On $47 Million Wilcox Tunnel Project

City officials may move forward on a $47 million project to upgrade the narrow Wilcox Tunnel through Missionary Ridge.
