A 19-year-old has been charged with filing a false police report that led to an hour-long lockdown at Erlanger Hospital and a room-to-room search.

Taken into custody was Adam Daniel Mahaffey, of 1633 Eucalyptus Dr.

Police said Mahaffey reported seeing a black male with a handgun going up toward the labor and delivery area of the hospital.

That led to the Chattanooga Police Department setting up a command post and rushing into action a dozen city police officers, 11 Walden Security guards and two sheriff deputies.

Police said Mahaffey later  backed up on his story and told different versions. He asked at one point if he was in trouble. Then he asked if he could be released with a warning.

Hospital personnel said due to the lockdown that certain patients could not be moved to areas where they had treatments scheduled.

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
