Contract For Preparing Site For "Doubled" VW Plant Comes In At $7.5 Million

The contract for preparing the site for a second Chattanooga Volkswagen facility the size of the first huge one has come in at $7.5 million.

The contract involves "flipping" soil and compacting it on a tract that is a "mirror" of the initial plant at the Enterprise South Industrial Park.

The City Bond Board on Tuesday morning will be asked to approve a contract with Plateau Excavation Inc. for a "mass leveling excavation project."

The base amount is $6,844,185 with a contingency amount that brings the total to $7,528,604.

Bids were opened on Jan.

16, and Plateau was by far the low bid.

Other bids included Talley Construction $8,615,999, Wright Brothers $8,268,185 and J&M Grading $10,666,555.

The project was sent to 15 firms and was also formally advertised.
