Bro. L. B. Griffith, 89, died on Friday, February 22, 2013 at a local hospital.  

A native of Chattanooga, he was born July 5, 1923 and graduated from Howard High School.

He was a long time employee of Ross Meenham Foundry, Wheland Foundry and a self-employed general contractor. He was a member of I.B.P.O. Elks of the World (Lodge #440) and a member of Mount Paran Missionary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Forces and received the American Campaign Medal and the Victory Medal from WWII.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Griffith and Magnolia Armour Griffith; brother, William Height; aunt, Mattie Weems; daughters, Gloria Griffith and Vanessa Johnson.

His survivors include his wife, Sarah Griffith; sons, Linus Griffith, Sr., of Murfreesboro, Tn.; Mark Smith, Justino Varner, Sr., of Chattanooga, and Jason Griffith of Birmingham, Ala.; Frank Lee Reeves; daughters, Gay Crutcher and Helen Reeves of Chattanooga; Yvonne Walthall; 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, other relatives and many, many friends.

Services will be held at noon on Monday, March 4, at Mt. Paran MBC. Interment will be in National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon on Sunday, March 3, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
