BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- In a continuing effort to recognize the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of competition, the Southeastern Conference once again highlighted a Community Service Team for men’s basketball for the 2012-13 season. Tennessee senior Kenny Hall was included on the 14-man team.
This marks the 15th year for the SEC Community Service Team for men’s basketball as well as for women’s basketball. All 20 league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men’s and women’s sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.
A forward from Stone Mountain, Ga., Hall has been one of the Vols’ community outreach leaders throughout his four years on Rocky Top.
Last fall, he attended the Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) Camp Out to combat homelessness. And for three straight years, he assisted with the annual Hoops for Hope basketball tournament that benefits the Down Syndrome Awareness Group of East Tennessee.
Hall has made multiple visits to area hospitals and clinics – such as UT Medical Center, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital and the Patricia Neal Rehabilitation Center – to visit with patients. He also visited Gresham Middle School to recognize and encourage students who had exhibited academic improvement.
He also recently took to social media to show his support for Regen Morris, an East Tennessee 12-year-old who was diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma (#RootinForRegen).
On the court, Hall has played in more than 100 games during his Big Orange career, including five NCAA Tournament games.
When the Vols defeated Kentucky by 30 points earlier this season, Hall came off the bench to score 14 points, grab five rebounds and draw two charges.
His career totals include 17 games with 10 or more points, three double-doubles and 76 slam dunks. He has made more than 55 percent of his shots during his career, and his next field goal will give him 500 career points.
He is on track to earn his degree in Sociology this summer.
