The city Transportation Board is dropping its advisory committee.
Patrick Bobo, assistant city attorney, said the fact that the panel had such a committee that included members of the taxi industry had been brought up against the city in a couple of lawsuits.
The latest is a complaint filed by All-American Taxi. The board voted recently to revoke the firm's license due to the company raising rates without having the authority to do so.
The suit says Tim Duckett, a rival taxi operator and member of the advisory committee, urged the board to revoke the All-American Taxi license.
The advisory committee members were initially allowed to vote and later were limited to giving advice while sitting with the other members.
Attorney Bobo said Mr. Duckett, who owns Millennium Taxi Service, recently resigned from the advisory committee. He said the other two members of the committee had not been active and one had not been seen at a meeting in several years.
