Chattanooga State Community College and UTC’s Associated General Contractors student chapters made a joint presentation to the Chattanooga Engineers Club about their partnership at the annual Associated Schools of Construction Region II Student Competition and Conference in Atlanta.
The joint team was comprised of Scott Turk, Heath Slaten and John Visage from Chattanooga State. The UTC students on the team included Emily Wilson, Harrison Bostwick and Molly Preskitt.
In its inaugural year, the joint team participated in the commercial competition and was tasked with preparing preconstruction documents for a 141,000 square foot office building on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg, Va.
While this is a feasible task with a reasonable timetable, the “catch” was that it had to be completed in 12-hours without the use of the Internet, a telephone, or any outside aids.
Although the team did not win an award, the experience has enabled them to share the knowledge they gained with the team competing next year.
