One person was killed in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon on Highway 153 in front of the Hixson Walmart.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a traffic crash at 5764 Highway 153. Investigators found that a tractor-trailer was northbound on Highway 153 and a maroon Chevy was southbound.

It appears that the Chevy started to skid sideways into the northbound lane and was struck by the tractor-trailer, causing the Chevy to overturn. It is unknown at this time what caused the Chevy to skid sideways.

A 35-year-old man in the Chevy was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while a 29-year-old woman was killed as a result of the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Lanes were not reopened until late afternoon.
