One person was killed in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon on Highway 153 in front of the Hixson Walmart.

At approximately 1:15 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a traffic crash at 5764 Highway 153. Investigators found that a tractor-trailer was northbound on Highway 153 and a maroon Chevy was southbound.

It appears that the Chevy started to skid sideways into the northbound lane and was struck by the tractor-trailer, causing the Chevy to overturn. It is unknown at this time what caused the Chevy to skid sideways.

A 35-year-old man in the Chevy was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, while a 29-year-old woman was killed as a result of the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing.

Lanes were not reopened until late afternoon.

Roy Exum: The Gold & Ivory Tablecloth

Not long ago, in my morning reading, I happened across an obscure tale about a special tablecloth. And, as things like this are more and more wont to do, I was instantly blessed by this story. As I tracked down its origin, I learned it originally appeared in a 1954 edition of Reader’s Digest. Written by the Rev. Howard C. Schade, who at the time was the pastor of the First Reformed ... Sophomore kicker Andy McMeen squibbed a line-drive kick 35 yards for a field goal with 2:10 ... (click for more)
