Hamilton County Sheriff's Office On Board With CARFAX

Friday, March 15, 2013

Sheriff Jim Hammond announced that the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is the first sheriff’s office in the state of Tennessee to use CARFAX’s Police Crash Assistance Program.

Sheriff Hammond said, “Networking with CARFAX enables our investigators to solve crimes faster, reduce administrative costs and better defend our citizens against vehicle thefts, title fraud investigations, VIN cloning, odometer roll backs and more.

“Our detectives have the capability to receive instant notifications, 24/7, when there is any activity on a VIN of interest.  Also, they will have the capability to scan VINs on the spot and view that vehicle’s complete history as well as search and view accident reports from CARFAX’s 8 billion vehicle records from more than 34,000 sources including more than 450 law enforcement agencies.”

Both the HCSO Traffic and Criminal Investigation Division have been using this tool for several weeks and are impressed with its capabilities.

Sheriff Hammond said, “A great advantage is that this is a no cost program for us.  We simply make our crash report information available to CARFAX and they make all their information available to us.  It’s a great trade off.”

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
