The Chattanooga Convention & Visitors Bureau opened a temporary Chattanooga Visitors Center on Friday at Shuttle Park South at 1398 Market Street, adjacent to the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

The new location will be open daily from 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and will have full-time information specialists and brochures for our area attractions, restaurants, local services and more.

Bob Doak, president and CEO of the Chattanooga Convention & Visitors Bureau said, “After we closed the Visitors Center at Shuttle Park North on Broad Street, we knew it was important to continue providing visitors with a one-stop source for information about the city. We needed a space that would offer easy access to information while our new Visitors Center is being built. We were excited that CARTA had this space available and that we could move into it quickly.”

Visitors to Chattanooga spend nearly one billion dollars in Hamilton County which generates more than $19 million in local sales tax revenues. This money also supports 8,500 full-time jobs in the tourism industry.

“We are very happy to be partnering with the CVB to provide valuable information to everyone who visits Chattanooga. The temporary location of the Visitors Center at CARTA Shuttle Park South is ideal for guests to our beautiful city. It’s conveniently located at our free, electric Downtown Shuttle service and next to one of Chattanooga’s most historic landmarks, the Chattanooga Choo Choo. It is a great partnership and we are looking forward to working with the CVB in the construction of its new facility,” said Lisa Maragnano, assistant executive director of CARTA.

The CVB will also be opening a new mobile Visitors Center near the Tennessee Aquarium starting this weekend.

Visitors also have instant access to the mobile website, www.chattanoogafun.com, for the most up-to-date information anytime, anywhere. It provides location-sensitive content with a GPS enabled device allowing you to locate the nearest restaurant, attraction or event. Chattanooga was one of the first cities in the country to offer tourism-based, mobile hand-held technology.

Roy Exum: Hypocrisy And Horses

I am still wincing over the fact a horrendous bill passed in the state legislature that would make whistle-blowers into criminals would have actually gone into law had it not been for Governor Bill Haslam’s eleventh-hour veto. Called the “Ag-Gag bill,” similar efforts in other states have also soured because it is no more than a Catch-22 trick to protect those who abuse animals, ... (click for more)
