Chattanooga Market Announces 2013 Season

The Chattanooga Public Market has grown in the past few years and now offers three artist & farmers markets to the community: Chattanooga River Market (Saturdays), Chattanooga Market (Sundays) and the newest addition, Ringgold Market (Saturdays). Live musical entertainment and the commitment to authentic handmade/homegrown goods are consistent among all Chattanooga Public Markets.

The Chattanooga River Market will celebrate its opening day for the 2013 season from 10 a.

m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 23 on the Tennessee Aquarium Plaza. Live music, handmade, local artistry, crafts, unique gifts and a light offering of food vendors will be featured at the River Market every Saturday until Labor Day weekend. 

The Chattanooga Market will be open for the season 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 21 at the First Tennessee Pavilion. In its 12th season, the popular Sunday Market continues to provide weekly opportunities for buying local. 

Boasting over 30 themed events this season, each Sunday will feature a charity partner or agricultural tie-in. Traditions continue with local favorite events such as the 2-day Chattanooga Oktoberfest, and the very popular “foodie” events and cook-offs.

The Ringgold Market will open 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 1 at the Historic Catoosa County Courthouse. The popular Saturday market will continue to showcase local-based produce and wares. 


Library Offers New Baby Bounce Program

The Chattanooga Public Library now offers Baby Bounce, a unique story time for newborns to 18 month-old-children and their caregivers. Baby Bounce story time will have its inaugural presentation on Thursday, May 23, in the storytelling room of the Downtown Library at 10:00 a.m. As babies grow, they learn by interacting, playing, imitating adults and by watching others. ... Weight Limit On Standifer Gap Road Bridge Over Friars Branch Decreased To 6 Tons

The weight limit on the bridge over Friars Branch just west of Woodland Park Baptist Church on Standifer Gap Road has been lowered to six tons for all vehicles. This change is now in effect.    (click for more)

Man Stabbed To Death After Argument

A Chattanooga man was stabbed to death after an argument on Friday night. At approximately 11 p.m., Chattanooga Police responded to a stabbing at 101 E 20 th St. where they found the victim, Alexis Lewis, 51, lying on the walkway with a fatal stab wound to his chest. Baker Says City Withdrawal On Riverbend Security Will Make Pin Costs Rise Next Year

Riverbend Festival Executive Director Chip Baker told the Civitan Club on Friday that the city's decision to no longer provide city police officers inside the festival gates will cost pin prices to go up next year.
