Charlie Wooden homered twice to help guide the Lee softball team to a doubleheader sweep of Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) rival Southern Weselyan University Saturday afternoon at Butler Field.

The victories move the No. 11 Lady Flames to 22-1 on the year and 8-0 in SSAC play. The two defeats drop the Warriors to 16-8 overall and 3-2 in conference.

Lee 10, SWU 0

The Lee offensive struck early and often in Saturday's 10-0 game two victory over SWU. The Lady Flames threw plenty of crooked numbers up on the scoreboard striking for three runs in the first, five in the second and two in the third.

Dominique Hannah lead off the game with a double for the Lady Flames. After Lexie Dean singled and Jennifer Ringle reached on a fielder's choice, Ana Coscorrosa delivered the first run of the game with a groundout. Wooden then ripped a two-run double to right-center to put the Lady Flames up 3-0.

Lee opened things up a bit more in the second inning sending 11 batters to the plate. The Lady Flames had six hits and scored all five runs with two outs.

Wooden led the charge going 2-for-2 with four RBI. The junior belted her sixth home run of the season, second of the day, to complete the scoring in the third inning for the Lady Flames.

Ana Coscorrosa went 1-for-2 and drove in two. Savana Bell, Jessa Watts, Meghan Macias and Hannah all had two hits in the contest.

Watts (4-0) started and worked three scoreless innings to notch her fourth victory of the season. She struck out three and did not allow hit. Caroline MacAusland followed her perfect game performance yesterday with a scoreless relief appearance. MacAusland struck out two and allowed one hit in one inning of work. Katie Deems came on in the fifth to record the final three outs of the ballgame.

Stephanie Bourlett started for the Warriors but was chased in the second inning. Bourlett gave up four runs on six hits and walked one. Allison Parker and Allison Barbee worked the final 3 innings in relief. Parker gave up four runs on four hits in 2/3 innings of work. Barbee moved from shortstop to work the final 2 1/3 innings for the SWU. She was charged with two runs on two hits and struck out three.

Breanna Cuff and Breanna Putman each singled to register the only hits in the contest for the Southern Wesleyan.

Lee will gear up for another SSAC doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon when they welcome Brewton-Parker to Butler Field. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

Lee 12, SWU 6

The Lee softball team rallied from four runs down to defeat Southern Wesleyan, 12-6 in game one of Saturday's twin bill.

The Lady Flames found themselves in an unfamiliar position, down 4-0 to the Warriors before an out had been recorded. Lee starter Angie Hughes struggled to find the zone walking the first three batters of the contest. Southern Weselyan's Cuff made her pay, blasting a grand slam to left to give the Warriors the early advantage.

The Lee offensive would cut the deceit in half in the bottom of the inning. Hannah and Dean each singled and came around to score on a two-run single by Ringle. Hannah finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.

The Warriors would add a solo run in the second inning on a home run by Kylie Klim to extend the margin to 5-2. MC Garrett's long ball in the fifth inning gave the South Carolina club a 6-2 advantage.

The Lee offense would respond in the bottom of the fifth. A pair of two-run homers by Hannah and Wooden helped spur a five-run inning and gave the Lady Flames their first lead of the ballgame at 7-6.

A two-run double by Lizzie Stevens helped keep the Lady Flame offense rolling in the bottom of the sixth. Savanna Bell and Dezirae Parsons would also double to help give Lee another five-run inning and a comfortable 12-6 advantage. Bell finished 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.

Jenn Jacoby worked five innings and gave up seven runs on eight hits for SWU. Casey Johnson surrendered five runs on six hits in 2/3 inning of relief work. Stephanie Bourlet came on to get the final out of the sixth for the Warriors.

Hughes (11-1) settled down after the shaky first to record her team-leading 11th victory of the season. Hughes gave up six runs on three hits and struck out nine in 5 2/3 innings of work. The freshman walked four batters but only one came after the first inning. Katie Deems worked a scoreless 1 1/3 innings to record her second save of the season.

All three hits in the contest for the Warriors came via the long ball.
